Brookville

neighborhood guide

The grand estates that characterized Brookville during the Gold Coast Era have largely been divided, but, helped by zoning rules that require properties to be at least two acres, the village retains its rural, elegant feel. The irregularly shaped village extends northward to Northern Boulevard, where Long Island University established its C.W. Post campus after purchasing cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post’s grand estate in 1951. The campus’s Tilles Center for the Performing Arts offers concerts and other events. The village maintains the 22-acre Brookville Nature Park, and there is shopping in nearby Jericho and Greenvale; the latter features upscale Wheatley Plaza, with stores, restaurants, and a supermarket.
